Its display-free concept is not just aesthetic — it also significantly reduces power consumption, extending battery life far beyond traditional scales.  

Built from anodized aluminum, it offers enhanced durability and stability, making it perfectly suited for demanding commercial environments and for placement directly under espresso machine groups. 

Magic Relay 

The Umbra is essentially the Lunar operating in stealth mode. Although it carries no display of its own, it communicates in real time using Acaia’s Magic Relay technology.  

When paired with another Acaia scale, weight data is transmitted instantly and the shared display switches seamlessly between devices. A simple tap activates the view you want, creating a fluid, interruption-free workflow that feels almost instinctive. 

Whether you’re dialing in espresso or managing multiple stations at once, the Umbra keeps everything connected, synchronized, and effortless. 

ReacX weighing technology 

Inside the Umbra is Acaia’s ReacX weighing technology, engineered for extremely high accuracy and repeatability. This ensures that every measurement reflects the true weight with minimal deviation, giving baristas absolute confidence in their recipes, extraction times, and consistency.

Umbra in action: advanced modes enabled

When paired with another Acaia scale, such as the Pearl, Umbra unlocks several smart modes designed to enhance workflow and precision.  

In Dual Weight Display Mode, the Pearl’s screen shows two simultaneous readings: the Umbra’s weight on the left and the Pearl’s on the right, allowing you to weigh on both scales at the same time.  

In Timer and Weight Display Mode, as soon as the Umbra begins detecting weight, the paired scale automatically switches its display to show weight + timer for the Umbra or, when the Pearl detects weight instead, weight + timer for the Pearl. This allows the display to seamlessly follow whichever scale is in use. 

Auto Timer with Flow — identified by the drop icon next to the tare symbol — starts measuring time and weight the moment extraction begins, without any manual input. 

Finally, Auto Tare and Auto Timer with Flow Detection — identified by the drop and square icon next to the tare symbol — not only triggers the timer and weight automatically when extraction is detected, but also performs an automatic tare of the cup as soon as it is placed on the scale.
