Rocket Appartamento 2.0: the evolution of an iconic espresso machine

The Rocket Appartamento 2.0 marks a new chapter for one of the best-known and compact espresso machines in the Rocket Espresso range. A long-standing model, instantly recognizable for its compact design and iconic aesthetic, the new version introduces a series of both visual and functional updates.

The goal is not to radically change the Appartamento, but to refresh its design and update some of its features, bringing it in line with the characteristics introduced on the latest models in the Rocket range.

The result is an espresso machine that retains its distinctive identity while introducing a number of thoughtful improvements designed to make everyday use even more convenient, without compromising the simplicity that has always defined the Appartamento.

Rocket Appartamento 2.0: what’s new?

The updates introduced with the new Rocket Appartamento 2.0 affect both the exterior of the machine and several internal components. Some changes are immediately noticeable, while others are less visible but can make a real difference in everyday use.

Let’s take a closer look at the design updates and the features that define the new look of the Rocket Appartamento 2.0.

A Deeper Drip Tray

One of the most noticeable updates at first glance is the deeper drip tray on the new Appartamento 2.0

It may seem like a small detail, but this change can make a difference in everyday use. The deeper drip tray makes the machine more practical for those who enjoy more than just a traditional espresso, making it easier to use larger cups and glasses for Americanos and milk-based drinks.

It is a good example of how Rocket has chosen to refine the Appartamento without changing its core philosophy, focusing on small details that can make the overall user experience more practical and enjoyable.

The new RGB LED indicator

Another new feature on the Rocket Appartamento 2.0 is the introduction of the RGB LED indicator, already found on the Rocket Appartamento TCA.

The light acts as a simple communication system between the machine and the user. Depending on its color and status, it provides different information about the machine, including when the ideal brewing temperature has been reached, when ECO mode is active, and when the water tank is running low.

We’ll come back to the latter feature in more detail shortly.

New color and finish options

The new Rocket Appartamento 2.0 also offers more possibilities when it comes to personalization.

The side panels are available in stainless steel or black, while the iconic twelve circular details on the side panels can be finished in black, white, copper, or wood.

The wood option is particularly interesting for anyone looking for a more refined aesthetic. On versions featuring wooden circles, the knobs and portafilter are also available in matching wood, creating a more cohesive and elegant overall look.

Depending on the chosen configuration, the Appartamento 2.0 can take on very different personalities, from a more modern and minimalist appearance to a warmer and more distinctive style.

The new 2.5-litre water tank with sensor

The updates to the Rocket Appartamento 2.0 are not limited to the exterior. One of the most important improvements can be found in the water tank.

The capacity remains unchanged at 2.5 litres, but the tank now features a sensor that detects when the water level is running low.

With this new system, when the water level becomes insufficient, the Rocket Appartamento 2.0 allows the current extraction to be completed instead of stopping halfway through.

It is a simple but significant improvement in everyday use. It makes the machine more convenient to operate while reducing the risk of waste and avoiding the frustration of having an extraction interrupted before your coffee is finished.

Corrosion-resistant components

Rocket has also focused on the machine’s long-term durability. The structure of the new Appartamento 2.0 now incorporates corrosion-resistant components, designed to help ensure greater reliability over time.

The Appartamento’s proven technology

The Rocket Appartamento 2.0 retains the proven technology that has contributed to the success of the original model: a 1.8-litre copper heat exchanger boiler paired with a vibration pump. Its compact dimensions, which have always been one of the Appartamento’s key strengths, also remain unchanged.

Its compact footprint makes this espresso machine particularly appealing to those with limited counter space who still want the features and performance typically associated with higher-end home espresso machines.

What about the PID and Shot Timer?

At this point, you may be wondering why Rocket has not introduced some of the features now found on many modern espresso machines with this new version.

The answer is simple: the Rocket Appartamento 2.0 remains true to its original philosophy.

There is no PID temperature control and no integrated shot timer. This is not an oversight, but a deliberate choice: the Appartamento continues to focus on a straightforward and essential espresso experience.

The new Rocket Appartamento 2.0 is therefore an evolution rather than a revolution. Rocket has refined several aspects of the machine to make it more modern and functional, while staying true to the original formula.

Years after its introduction, the Appartamento still has a distinctive identity within the Rocket Espresso range. The Appartamento 2.0 does not try to follow every new trend in the market. Instead, it carefully evolves an established formula, allowing its design, practicality and straightforward approach to continue defining its character.
