The Slayer Steam EP is the volumetric Steam. Same architecture as the LP, the same saturated groups with a dedicated brew boiler and a separate steam boiler, but the manual extraction controls give way to repeatability. In the 2 group version it is the machine for a cafe that has already settled its recipes and wants them to come out identical every shift.
Volumetric does not mean no room to work: a programmable pre wet of 0 to 4 seconds still soaks the puck before full pressure arrives, and that is the part you taste. The valves are electronic solenoids, as on the LP.
What we love
It is the most accessible Slayer with two genuine saturated groups and a boiler per group. At this level that configuration usually costs a good deal more.
Consistency across baristas. If the problem on your bar is the variance between whoever opens and whoever closes, the EP takes it off the table.
Things to consider
The EP is built around repeatability. The programmable pre wet of 0 to 4 seconds gets set once, tasted, and then repeated by everyone who touches the machine, so what changes across a shift is the coffee and not the hand pulling it. On a bar that has already settled its recipes, two saturated groups with a boiler each are what hold that promise through the morning rush.
Careful with
This is professional counter equipment. It weighs around 100kg, it plumbs in, and it needs a dedicated 220-240V single phase supply. And the manual controls cannot be added later: if you think you will want them, the LP is the choice from the start.
