Frequently asked questions
The questions we are asked most often about this grinder.
How do I use the X64 SD for single dosing?
You weigh the beans for one dose and grind only those, so you can change coffee every time.
- Weigh the beans in the dosing cup with a digital scale.
- Pour them through the opening of the attachment fitted on top: the anti-popcorning attachment (about 30 g) for small doses, the hopper extension (about 100 g) for larger amounts.
- Place the dosing cup, with its attachment, under the spout and press START/STOP; when the beans are finished, press it again.
- To blow out leftover grounds, especially when you change coffee, fit the bellows, close it with its lid and press it several times.
Can I switch from espresso to filter and back with the X64 SD?
Yes, that is what it is made for: the lower the number on the scale the finer the grind, up to 12 for the coarsest, and the espresso, filter and cold brew ranges are marked on the scale. Make large moves, in either direction, only with the motor running: Mahlkönig warns that a large jump with the grinder at a standstill can overload the burrs, motor and gears during the next grind.
When you change coffee, the bellows blows out what is left of the previous dose.
Can I use the X64 SD in a café or bar?
No. Single dosing is a ritual: you weigh the beans for each dose and grind them one at a time, something that is a pleasure at home but does not hold up in a café, where doses follow one after another. Mahlkönig in fact designs the X64 SD for the home and states it is expressly not intended for food service; it is fine in home-like settings such as offices, shops or bed and breakfasts, up to 2.5 kg of coffee a day.
220 V or 110 V: which version of the X64 SD should I choose?
The 220 V version is for 220-240 V mains, the voltage used in most of the world, Europe included; the 110 V version is for low-voltage mains. Mahlkönig makes the low-voltage X64 SD in two versions, 100 V at 50/60 Hz and 120 V at 60 Hz. If you need the 110 V, write to us with your mains voltage and frequency before ordering: we will tell you whether it is the right version.
