This Eureka Oro Mignon Single Dose is exactly what it sounds like: Eureka Oro Mignon XL adapted for Single Dose use. This iteration of the Mignon is for the ones who have a specific ritual when preparing their espresso shot. Since the Single Dose is taken from the Mignon XL, it has all of its main features meaning 65 mm burrs in pure diamond and extra refinement. What you gain in this model is a blow-up system (supplied as standard) for near to zero retention, a stainless steel dosing cup in order to effectively collect all of the ground coffee, and most noticeably, the ELR system. This system inclines the coffee grinder forward by 15° in order to incline the grinding chamber and ensure zero retention. A drastic and eye-catching solution to solve the biggest of the single-dosing issues. You also get a removable base in durmast wood kept in place thanks to magnets to accommodate the dosing cup. Since the wood base is easily removable, you can substitute it with a scale for instant weighing of the coffee. 

The rest of the features are what you would expect from such a coffee grinder: Eurekas' stepless patented adjustment, silent technology for incredibly quiet grinding, and high-speed maintenance allowing easy access to clean the coffee grinder.

Have been using this for about a month. Seems very well built, very quick and quiet compared to all the grinders I've had (like Iberital Challenge, Ascaso iSteel and Quamar Q50S). The only slight disadvantage is that it's not very comfortable to grind directly into a portafilter, but the provided metal cup neatly fits a 58-mm portafilter. It does seem to be a very good deal compared to other single-dose grinders. I've seen the Chinese DF64 grinder that is more noisy and isn't nearly as well built, and also Niche that is much more expensive.

The bellow has very little effect because the little hole where the coffe exits the burr chamber get's blocked very easily. So there is probably around 1g of exchange coffee constantly in the "system". To sum this up: it's a good grinder with mediocre manufacturing parts.

The questions we are asked most often about this grinder.

How do I use the Single Dose, with the tab and the Blow Up?

Weigh the beans for your dose, check that the tab under the hopper is closed and pour them in. Start with the side button and only then open the tab. Once the last bean has dropped, close it again; when no more coffee comes out of the spout, press the Blow Up on the hopper, still with the tab closed, to clean the grinding chamber. Then switch off with the side button.

It is not a grinder for a bar or café: every dose is weighed and ground on its own, it is a small ritual.

How do I adjust the Single Dose's grind without jamming it?

Turn the dial clockwise for a finer grind, anticlockwise for a coarser one. The adjustment is stepless: go gradually and grind a little coffee every 2 notches at most.

When you go finer, do it with the motor running. The Single Dose's motor is designed for home use and is less powerful than a professional grinder's: if you turn the dial a full turn with the motor stopped, the grinder can jam. If it happens, write to us before sending it for repair.

What is the difference from the Single Dose Pro?

The Single Dose Pro is the newer model and changes these points:

  • Burrs: both have 65 mm Diamond Inside flat burrs; the Pro has a blind upper burr, with no screw holes, and is compatible with Black Diamond burrs.
  • Retention: new ZERØ-Retention grind chamber, with retention improved by up to 70% over the Single Dose.
  • Adjustment: the Pro has the King Size dial with rev counter, the Single Dose the Extra-Comfort dial.
  • Dosing cup: the Pro has an 80 g metal cup with anti-chaff funnel, the Single Dose a 45 g cup.
