If cappuccino is your favorite drink and you regularly prepare milk-based beverages, choosing the right coffee...
Are you a cappuccino lover? Here are the coffee machines we recommend.
If cappuccino is your favorite drink and you regularly prepare milk-based beverages, choosing the right coffee machine can make all the difference.
For those who enjoy switching between espresso and cappuccino throughout the day, we recommend focusing your search on heat exchanger (HX) or dual boiler coffee machines. Thanks to their design, these machines allow you to brew espresso and steam milk at the same time, making the preparation process faster and helping you achieve more consistent results, even when preparing several drinks in a row.
Heat exchanger machines generally offer a more accessible price point and tend to have a slightly more compact footprint. Dual boiler machines, on the other hand, are the ideal choice for anyone looking for professional-level performance at home.
Here are the models we have selected as our favorites, focusing on machines that combine a mid-range price point with professional features and performance.
Heat Exchanger Coffee Machines
Lelit Mara X3
Let's start with one of the most interesting new coffee machines of the year: Lelit Mara X3.
It is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a heat exchanger machine with a modern, compact design, without giving up features usually found on higher-end models.
What makes the Mara X3 particularly interesting is the Pagaia system, an innovative flow control system that allows you to customize your espresso extractions.
By turning the lever, you can electronically adjust the pump power and control the flow of water reaching the group. Turning Pagaia clockwise progressively increases the pump power up to 100%, while turning it counterclockwise proportionally reduces it.
This is a particularly impressive feature for a heat exchanger machine, especially because it gives you a level of control over the extraction process that is more commonly found on higher-end dual boiler machines.
For cappuccino lovers, this means you can steam your milk while brewing your espresso, while also having the freedom to experiment with extraction and pre-infusion to find the best results for each coffee.
The Mara X3 also introduces several new design details that give the machine a more premium look, including dark wood accents and a newly redesigned portafilter designed to improve ergonomics.
The machine is available in black, white, and stainless steel, three finishes that can easily complement modern kitchens.
Rocket Giotto FAST and Mozzafiato FAST
Staying with heat exchanger machines, we couldn't leave out the new FAST versions of the iconic Rocket Giotto and Mozzafiato.
The main innovation is already in the name: FAST refers to the new fast heating system.
A heating element has been integrated into the E61 group, allowing the group itself to heat up and making the machine ready to use in around 12 minutes after switching it on.
This is particularly useful for anyone who enjoys a cappuccino every morning but doesn't want to spend too much time waiting for their machine to heat up.
The new FAST models also feature an OLED display with multiple functions. It can be used as a shot timer and also works as a PID controller, allowing you to set the brewing temperature using the three buttons positioned underneath the drip tray.
Both the Giotto FAST and Mozzafiato FAST are available with either a vibration pump or a rotary pump. With the rotary pump version, you can also choose between using the machine with its water reservoir or connecting it directly to a water line.
ECM Mechanika Max II
Let's stay with heat exchanger machines and move on to ECM, a brand that has long been synonymous with build quality and performance.
The model we think is particularly well suited to anyone who loves preparing milk-based drinks is the Mechanika Max II.
Once again, one of the main goals was to reduce heat-up times by using the same group found on the Synchronika II.
Anyone who prepares coffee in the morning knows that every minute counts. Just like the new Rocket FAST models, the Mechanika Max II puts a strong focus on speed.
Ease of use is another of its strengths. The machine features an OLED display and two practical buttons that allow you to navigate through the various settings, including brewing temperature, pre-infusion times, and ECO mode.
But the feature we are most interested in for this article is the machine's milk steaming capabilities.
The Mechanika Max II offers three steam wand settings: Low, Medium, and High, each corresponding to a different temperature inside the steam boiler:
Low: 124°C
Medium: 127°C
High: 130°C
This allows you to further customize the milk steaming process and adapt it to the different milk-based recipes you want to prepare.
Dual Boiler Coffee Machines
If budget isn't your main concern and you're looking for even higher performance, we recommend considering a dual boiler coffee machine, particularly if you regularly prepare milk-based drinks.
These machines generally sit in a higher price range than heat exchanger models, but their design makes them particularly well suited to anyone looking for professional-level performance at home.
ECM Synchronika II
For our first recommendation, we're staying with ECM and the Synchronika II.
One of its most innovative features is the E61 group with an integrated rapid heating system. A heating element has been placed inside the group, allowing the machine to reach operating temperature in around 6 minutes.
That's an impressive warm-up time for a machine of this type, especially if you want to make your morning cappuccino without having to switch the machine on long before you need it.
Despite its professional-level performance, the Synchronika II remains very easy to use thanks to its OLED display, which gives you access to all the machine's main settings.
These include the ability to adjust the steam boiler temperature between 115°C and 134°C.
ECM has also included several features designed to make everyday maintenance easier, such as reminders for cleaning and water filter replacement.
Another particularly useful feature is the ability to program two different on/off times for each day of the week. This means you can have your Synchronika II ready to use both in the morning and, for example, during your afternoon coffee break.
Lelit Bianca
When talking about dual boiler machines, we simply can't leave out Lelit Bianca, which has become one of the most popular machines among cappuccino lovers and specialty coffee enthusiasts.
Its timeless, classic design, complemented by elegant wood accents, adds character to any kitchen.
Bianca is available in four permanent finishes: stainless steel, white, black, and gold. These are joined by the limited edition created to celebrate Lelit's 40th anniversary, featuring a stainless steel finish with Zebrano wood accents and engraved designs on the side panels.
If you're considering buying a Lelit Bianca, the anniversary edition is an especially interesting option if you're looking for a more exclusive version of this iconic machine.
Another feature that immediately stands out is the balance between performance and size. Despite being a dual boiler machine, Bianca is just 29 cm wide, 58 cm deep, and 39 cm high.
The water reservoir has also been designed with flexibility in mind. At just 8 cm deep, it can be positioned either at the back of the machine or on the side.
This makes Bianca a great option for cappuccino lovers who don't have a huge amount of space available on their kitchen counter.
But Bianca really shines when it comes to customization. You can adjust a range of parameters, including pre-infusion, coffee boiler temperature, steam boiler temperature, and water flow.
Taking all of these features into account, we believe Lelit Bianca offers excellent value for money compared with other machines offering a similar level of customization and performance.
Rocket R58 TUNE
Among this year's new releases, we also have the Rocket R58 TUNE, an evolution of Rocket's iconic dual boiler machine.
The main innovation is, as the name suggests, the TUNE technology, which allows you to customize pre-infusion times and the final stage of the extraction using preset pressure levels.
The aim is to achieve more even coffee puck saturation and reduce channeling.
One particularly interesting feature is the ability to use lower pressure during the final stage of the extraction. This can help reduce bitterness, which tends to become more pronounced toward the end of the brewing process.
TUNE therefore gives you another level of control over your espresso and allows you to adapt the extraction to the characteristics of each coffee, taking factors such as origin and roast level into account.
It's a particularly interesting option for anyone who goes beyond simply making espresso and enjoys experimenting to find the best possible profile for every coffee.
Profitec MOVE
We’ll finish our selection with the Profitec MOVE, the only machine on our list featuring a saturated group.
Unlike a traditional E61 group, a saturated group acts as an extension of the boiler, allowing water to circulate continuously through the group and helping maintain a highly stable brewing temperature.
The MOVE is also designed to be easy to use, thanks to its OLED display, which allows you to select and customize the machine's various brewing settings.
There's also a small detail we particularly appreciate, especially for anyone who wants to keep their coffee station neat and organized: the Profitec MOVE comes with a single bottomless portafilter, along with two silicone spouts that can be attached when you want to brew a single or double shot.
It's a simple but clever solution that helps save space on your coffee station and avoids accumulating accessories that you rarely use.
Which coffee machine should you choose for your cappuccino?
These are the machines we recommend for anyone who loves cappuccino and, more generally, regularly prepares milk-based drinks.
The choice between a heat exchanger and a dual boiler coffee machine ultimately comes down to your budget and how much control and customization you are looking for.
Heat exchanger machines are an excellent compromise: they allow you to brew espresso and steam milk at the same time, generally take up less space, and offer a more accessible price point.
If, on the other hand, you're looking for the highest levels of performance, temperature stability, and customization, a dual boiler coffee machine is the option we recommend considering.
And, most importantly for anyone who makes cappuccinos every day, there's one thing all the machines in our selection have in common: you no longer have to choose between a great espresso and perfectly textured milk. You can have both, at the same time.
