The Specialita’ is fitted with 55 mm flat burrs and a stepless micrometric adjustment. I like almost everything about this grinder. The only serious downside is a motor. It uses a direct drive, 300W, AC motor, that drives large burrs. This configuration is bound to have a very low initial torque, so every time you have managed to clog the grinder's shute with oily beans, you will have to take it apart and clean it. Not a big deal, but when you have just 5 min in the morning to make yourself a coffee, this can be very annoying. I myself prefer medium roast, so this issue almost non-existent for me.
Another thing that happens often because of the same motor issue, is a stuck grinder when you take the bin hopper of, and then put it back: the residual bins and their bits that remain on the top of the burrs will be redistributed and pressed down by the hooper’s pipe butt, so that they will be pressed tightly to the burrs, and this pressure is enough to prevent the motor from spinning. The symptom is the same as if the shute is clogged, but in reality, you just need to move the hopper a bit up when the grinder is on, and once it unclogs itself you can press it down firmly again. So, hopefully, this tip can help you.
On the other hand, this motor configuration makes the grinder simple mechanically/eclectically and very reliable. It can serve many many years.
I should mention that my coffee grind is very consistent now, and blind testing showed a noticeable taste improvement compared to my old Breville Smart grinder.
I also really liked the price and the overall service from espressocoffeeshop.com. I ordered it from Canada, and the price, including taxes, custom duties and currier shipping, was still much less than what I could find in Canada (and I was looking high and low), both online and in retail shops. If you have limited space and still want a great grind, the Eureka Mignon Specialita certainly fills that bill. It is, however, more sensitive than the much larger 35 pound grinders. I had received a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine as a Christmas gift. The problem was that my Encore could not get fine enough and the grounds were terribly inconsistent.
This machine has proven to be a MASSIVE upgrade. It's almost completely silent and it produces wonderfully fine and consistent grounds. I'm actually able to pull good shots now.
My recommendation to everyone when they first get this grinder is to find your machine's absolute zero. Run the grinder and then slowly adjust the knob finer. Once you hear a chirping sound (its obvious don't worry), note the number on the knob. That's your zero point. A good starting point for espresso is 2 numbers above zero, but it will depend on your particular machine. Every grinder is slightly different.

The questions we are asked most often about this grinder.
How do I adjust the grind without jamming the burrs?
Turn the knob clockwise for a finer grind, anticlockwise for a coarser one. The adjustment is stepless: go in small steps, one or two notches at a time, and test each time.
When you go finer, always do it with the motor running. The Mignon is a high-quality grinder, but its motor is designed for home use and is less powerful than a professional grinder's: if you turn the knob with the motor stopped, the burrs can jam. If it happens, write to us before sending it for repair.
Is the dose timed or by weight? What if the + and − disappear?
It is timed: with + and − you set the seconds for the single and the double dose, and there is also a continuous mode of up to 60 seconds.
If you can no longer see + and − on the display, it is almost always because they were pressed together by mistake: this locks the times and the two buttons disappear. To bring them back, press the same two spots together again. You can also do it on purpose, so the times cannot be changed by accident.
Our tip: since the dose is timed, weigh the ground coffee the first few times and adjust the seconds until the dose is right.
15BL or 16CR: what is the difference?
Only the finish of the front plate: black on the 15BL, chrome on the 16CR. Motor, 55 mm burrs and display are the same. In our range the 15BL comes in black, the 16CR in every colour.
220 V or 110 V: which version should I choose?
The one that matches the mains in your home. The 220 V version is for 220-240 V mains, the voltage in most of the world, Europe included; the 110 V version is for low-voltage mains, such as North America.
