Key Features:
-
Grind-by-Weight Technology: Utilizes a high-precision load cell for real-time, weight-based dosing during grinding, delivering precise and repeatable results.
-
The Sync System: Enables wireless communication between the grinder and compatible commercial espresso machines. This integration allows for automatic adjustments to the grind size, aligning with target extraction times to maintain optimal espresso quality.
-
Electrical Burr Adjustment: Features an electric motor that allows for micro-adjustments of the burr distance, either manually by the barista or automatically when synchronized with an espresso machine.
-
Patented Disc Distance Detection (DDD): Provides accurate settings of grind fineness based on the actual distance between the burrs, ensuring consistency across shots.
-
Active Cooling System: Maintains low grinding temperatures, preserving the coffee's aroma and flavor profile.
-
Integrated Portafilter Detection: Recognizes the portafilter automatically, selects the corresponding grinding preset, and initiates the grinding process, saving time and reducing dosing errors.
-
Adjustable Illuminated Spout: Ensures a clean and centered coffee outlet, accommodating various portafilter sizes.
-
Quiet Operation: Engineered for pleasantly quiet grinding, contributing to a more comfortable environment.
-
High-Resolution Display: Equipped with an 88.3 mm display offering a wide viewing angle for easy operation and monitoring.
The E65W GbS is designed to adapt to both current needs and future growth, making it a versatile choice for coffee professionals aiming to perfect espresso preparation in any setting. Frequently asked questions
The questions we are asked most often about this grinder.
How do I connect the E65W GbS to the Mahlkönig Sync app and to Wi-Fi?
Here too your phone joins the grinder's own Wi-Fi network first: if it is on your normal Wi-Fi, or the grinder is already connected to a network, pairing will not start. You pick the café's network afterwards, in the app, and it has to be 2.4 GHz.
- On the grinder log in as Owner under User Management: the factory password is in the Mahlkönig Quick Start Guide.
- In the general settings set the time zone, time and date: with a wrong time or date the Wi-Fi will not connect.
- In Connectivity, under Cloud Settings, switch the cloud connection on.
- In Wi-Fi Settings enable Wi-Fi and check it is in access point mode; if not, press Reset Wifi. Then press Quick Connect to show the QR code.
- In the app choose Onboard & Sync devices, then the grinder, and scan the QR code; when your phone asks to join the Hemro network, accept. Choose the store, the Wi-Fi network and its password, then Connect.
Which machines does the E65W GbS sync with? Will it work with mine?
Via the cloud it connects to the La Marzocco Strada S, KB90, Linea PB, Linea PB X, Linea Classic S, GB5 S and GB5 X in AV or ABR configuration; with a dedicated USB cable, no Wi-Fi needed, to the Sanremo Café Racer, F18 Multiboiler, F18 SB, D8 PRO and D8. With any other machine you use the Mahlkönig Sync Scale, which measures the brew time and sends it to the grinder, or you type the time on the screen yourself.
Either way it weighs the dose (Grind-by-Weight) and corrects the burr distance by itself to stay on the target time. Enable GbS in the recipe and start from a grind that is already close: it can take up to 5 shots before it starts adjusting. With the Sync Scale only shots longer than 15 seconds and no longer than the target time plus 15 count.
How often should the E65W GbS scale be calibrated?
Mahlkönig recommends calibrating the load cell with a 1 kg weight once a week or as needed, after adjusting the portafilter support and every time you move the grinder. The calibrated weight is a Mahlkönig accessory (part number 703000).
First brush any grounds off the spout, fork, support and load cell cover, then start the calibration and follow the screen. If it weighs inaccurately, the manual points to calibration and to a stable, level, vibration-free surface.
Is there a smaller hopper for the E65W GbS?
Yes. The standard hopper holds about 1.2 kg; Mahlkönig offers an optional hopper of about 250 g and one of about 1.8 kg. If you grind little coffee a day or change beans often we recommend the small one, so the beans spend less time in the hopper.
Whichever you use, fit it properly: the grinder switches off automatically when the hopper is not inserted.
Can the E65W GbS keep up with a café? How many shots can it grind back to back?
Yes, Mahlkönig designs it for commercial use: businesses, restaurant kitchens, canteens. It is rated for up to 30 kg of coffee a day and, at 220-240 V, up to 3 double espressos a minute; 2 in the low-voltage versions. It is not meant for continuous mass production.
That is what sets it apart from the E64 WS: same weighing and Grind-by-Sync technology, but the E64 WS is a home grinder, rated for up to 2.5 kg a day, and is not built for back-to-back doses at peak times.
220 V or 110 V: which version of the E65W GbS should I choose?
The 220 V version is for 220-240 V mains, the voltage used in most of the world, Europe included; the 110 V version is for low-voltage mains. Mahlkönig makes the low-voltage E65W GbS in versions that also differ in frequency (100 V at 50/60 Hz and 110-127 V at 60 Hz). If you need the 110 V, write to us with your mains voltage and frequency before ordering: we will tell you whether it is the right version.
