The questions we are asked most often about this grinder.
The Libra 65 grinds by weight, not by time: it stops when the dose you set is in the portafilter, accurate to ±0.2 g. Put the portafilter on the fork, choose single or double dose and adjust the grams with − and +, one tenth of a gram at a time (hold the button to scroll). Press the dose button again to pause, and you can switch from single to double while it is grinding.
If + and − have vanished from the display, you have almost certainly held them down together by mistake: that locks the doses and the two buttons go dark. Hold them down together again to bring them back.
Yes, that is what it is built for. The 65 mm All Purpose flat burrs, with a blind upper burr, are designed for espresso and for every filter method; the recommended roast is light. The fork holds both the portafilter and the All Purpose cup for filter.
To switch methods, use the King Size dial with its revolution counter: we suggest noting how many turns you use for espresso and for filter, so you can go straight back to each setting. For doses other than single and double there is continuous grinding: hold the single and double dose buttons together and it grinds until you let go, for up to 30 seconds.
Turn the dial clockwise for a finer grind and anticlockwise for a coarser one. The adjustment is stepless: go gradually and grind a little coffee every 2 notches at most. This matters most when you go back from filter to espresso and have to go much finer.
When you go finer, do it with the motor running, while it grinds a dose. The Libra 65 has a motor designed for home use, less powerful than a commercial grinder's: if you turn the dial a full turn with the motor off, the grinder can jam. If that happens, write to us before sending it in for repair.
The Libra 65 weighs the coffee right on the fork, so before starting it has to detect the portafilter or the cup. "FH" appears if they are not seated properly or if you press the dose button more than 10 seconds after putting them on: take the portafilter off, put it back and press single or double dose straight away.
If it stops in the middle of grinding, a knock on the portafilter or the fork has paused it: press a dose button within 5 seconds to finish the dose. It also stops by itself when the scale sees no increase in grams, for example with an empty hopper, to protect the motor.
No: the first calibration is done and tested at the factory, so the Libra 65 is ready to use. It only needs recalibrating if the weighing loses accuracy.
In that case, at switch-on hold + and single dose for about 7 seconds. Put the empty portafilter on the fork (the display suggests a 20 g sample weight, which you can change with − and +), press double dose to take the tare, place an object of exactly that weight in the portafilter and finish by holding + and single dose for a few seconds.
The weighing is the same: same technology, same touch display, same ±0.2 g accuracy. The burrs are different, and so are the use and the speed.
In short: if you also brew filter, the Libra 65 All Purpose; if you only make espresso and want your dose faster, the Libra.
